What to expect
Most of what makes a dental visit frightening is not knowing what is about to happen. So here is what happens, in order, and what we do about the parts people dread.
Your first visit
We talk first
We talk through what's bothering you.
We look
We examine your teeth and gums, and take X-rays if we need to see below the surface.
We explain, before anything is done
We explain what we've found in plain language and what your options are, before anything is done.
Will it hurt?
We use local anaesthetic for anything that would otherwise be uncomfortable, and we check in with you as we go. If something does feel wrong, tell us and we stop. We will also explain what to expect afterwards, so nothing takes you by surprise.
I'm nervous about the dentist. What do you do about that?
Tell us when you arrive — it genuinely helps us look after you properly. We work at your pace, explain each step before we start it, and stop whenever you ask us to. A lot of our patients haven't seen a dentist in years, and nobody here will make you feel bad about that.
Tell us how you're feelingDo you treat children?
Yes. We see patients of every age, and children's appointments are given the time they need. The first visit is usually just a look and a chat, so the clinic becomes a familiar place rather than a frightening one.
How often should I have a checkup?
For most people every six months works well. If you have gum problems or a history of decay we may suggest seeing you more often — we will tell you why rather than just booking you in.
What if I have a dental emergency?
Call us on +234 907 697 2231 or +234 803 328 6485 as early in the day as you can and explain what has happened — bad toothache, a broken tooth, swelling or an injury. We'll fit you in as quickly as we're able during opening hours (Monday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm).
